A Dominant 2nd Half Helps The Tigers Cruise Past UNO

The LSU Tigers turned a routine Monday night matchup into a statement, cruising past the University of New Orleans 93–58 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center to move to 2–0 on the season.

It took a little while for the Tigers to fully find their rhythm, but once they did, it was lights out for the Privateers. LSU ripped off a dominant second half, outscoring UNO 49–26 and turning what was once a modest 12-point lead into a full-on blowout.

Big Men, Big Game

LSU’s frontcourt flat-out owned the night.

  • Mike Nwoko looked unstoppable inside, leading all scorers with 22 points on 9-of-13 shooting. He was efficient, physical, and flat-out relentless.

  • Marquel Sutton was a walking double-double, posting 15 points and 15 boards while knocking down four triples — yes, the big fella can shoot too.

  • Jalen Reed added 15 points and seven rebounds, continuing his strong comeback after missing most of last year. He’s quickly becoming one of LSU’s most reliable two-way players.

How It Happened

  • Second-Half Explosion: The Tigers came out of the locker room on fire, going on a 15–0 run that buried UNO for good.

  • Owning the Paint: LSU outscored the Privateers 42–28 inside and bullied their way to a 56–36 rebounding advantage.

  • Taking Care of Business (and the Ball): Just seven turnovers all night — a massive improvement from the season opener.

  • Sharing is Caring: Twenty-one assists on 31 made shots. The offense flowed beautifully, with point guards Dedan Thomas Jr. and Jalen Reece combining for 12 dimes.

Head coach Matt McMahon was all smiles afterward, crediting his team’s energy and discipline on defense — especially their ability to bottle up UNO’s guards. “That’s the kind of connected defense we need every night,” McMahon said postgame.
